The gearshift rod coupling connects your gearshift rod to the shifting mechanism under the car - making it a critical component for smooth shifting. With OEM number 311 798 211 - this coupling fits the T2a - T2b - Type 3 - Karmann Ghia - Type 181 - and Type 4. You'll immediately notice wear here: play in the shifter - difficult shifting - or the car jumping out of gear. Combine this with a new gearshift rod bushing and you're all set.
